How to move /home from ssd to larger sata drive Centos 8? ⚙

I have a dedicated server, and I need to move the /home from the smaller ssd drive to the 12tb sata drive. The sata drive is mounted, and currently only has one directory /backup.

Is there a way I can do the move without too much trouble? Sorry for the novice question, but I am not getting any response from the provider, and I need the extra space.

Thank you very much in advance for any answers to this.

Replacing a Hard Drive with RAID1 ( Software RAID )

This is my first post on Web Hosting Talk Forum. I need your help. My server consists of 2 hard drives. 1TB x 2 SATA. In last week my server gets slow down and the data center noticed that I have an issue with my hard drive. They said " We are showing drive SDB is failing and will need to be replaced, " They asked me to take a backup and replace the hard drive immediately.

I have 2 hard drives and I have installed CentOS 7 with software RAID 1 ( Software RAID ). So now my question is do I need to restore the backup once we replace the hard drive. ? or is it syncing with RAID without any manual backup restoration ?

Looking for dedicated server that rivals Rackspace

Rackspace has recently tripled their prices with us after our contract was up. So, we have servers that they are trying to force us to sign a new contract with them for a considerably higher price.

So, with that being said, we need 5 dedicated machines with these specs or similar:

Server Platform: Dual Processor Multi-Core Dedicated Server - Dell R720
• Processor: Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2640, 15M Cache, 2.50 GHz, Hex Core QTY: 2
• Random Access Memory: 128GB
• RAID, Set 1: RAID 1
• Drive Selection, Set 1: 600GB 15K SAS 3.5inch QTY: 2
• RAID, Set 2: RAID 5
• Drive Selection, Set 2: 600GB 15K SAS 3.5inch QTY: 3
• Drive Partitioning: Rackspace Suggested Partitioning QTY: 1
• Operating System: Windows Server 2016 Datacenter 64Bit QTY: 8

We will need about 12 ip addresses per machine.

We will supply our own windows licensing. Drive space cannot be less but definitely would like more space.

They would need to be in the USA. The time frame for 1 machine would be needed as soon as possible whereas the other 4, we will need as time permits to move the data over.

We need reliability, which is something Rackspace does well.

I hope I covered everything.

Thanks!

Which server will be faster ?

Hi,

I need a dedicated server and I found the following configs which are at same price:

E3-1245v5, 32GB RAM, SoftRAID 2x4TB SATA
E3-1245v5 , 32GB RAM, SoftRAID 2x450 GB NVME

I need storage space but at the same time I cannot compromise much on the speed.
I know that NVMe will be faster but the question is how much slower the SATA will be from the NVMe ?

Will it be very slow or somewhat slow ? Please clarify.

Thanks.

AMD EPYC 7702p vs 7702

I am thinking to buy AMD EPYC 64 core Server
But I am confused in AMD EPYC 7702p vs 7702. Both spesification is same but price wise there is aprox 20% diffrent.
So my question is 7702 is good or bad? why it is cheaper?

I am thinking to buy this server. It is good? Please post your valuable feedback

Welp, Guess I need a Managed Dedicated Server Provider...who do you recommend?

This current admin company is driving me insane! They are literally making my server worse...

I have lost so much money in production time of not being able to develop websites!

This sever is for basic business sites.

So I am moving this server from dedicated self-managed (with 3rd party admin) and now need a fully managed server.

This is just to host multiple websites. so we very rarely have issues on the server.

I need cpanel/whm

I am used to having multiple processors with multiple cores, but they are quite old, so maybe the more powerful processors can beat it?

It's an old server but has been a workhorse for development with no real issues.

i'd like the equivalent or better. Ideally under $200 month ($150 would be great!)

who do you recommend? Any black friday/cyber Monday specials?

Is there a storage server cheaper than google drive?

As above. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to google drive to store my files on cloud.

At the moment my google drive has 1.2 TB of files but I don't think I'm going to need more space anytime soon.

Also I don't need a lot of bandwidth, 100 Mbps is more than enough. Thank you

How much I/O should I get from this options?

So I'm looking forward to buy something like the Infra-3 server from OVH (https://www.ovhcloud.com/es/bare-metal/infra/infra-3/). They offer a 4x60GB SSD Sata hard Raid, and also a 3x3.84TB SSD NvMe Soft Raid. And althought I want more space, I think they sold the 4x960 so people can wain more speed? How much more speed could I win from that configuration?

Also they sold a 3x6TB HHD SATA Hard RAID. I want to know how much speed on I/O should I get in every case.

Currently I got a Infra-2 (https://www.ovhcloud.com/es/bare-metal/infra/infra-2/) with 2x960GB SSD NvMe SoftRaid + 2 x 6TB HDD Sata Soft Raid, How can I test the speed of I/O of those hard drives?

And If I start a new server, what kind of partitioning do you recommend to improve the I/O?

Looking for dedicated server

Looking for a dedicated server managed preferably, DirectAdmin or Interworxk panel. Must be able to assist with migration from Interworxk panel.

Something or someone who is reliable and won't change your bill/invoice amount ever now and then (i consider that as unethical practice, but that's just me, let's not discuss about that here) . For specs looking for 16 gb ram, 1 x 500 gb drive and 1 additional drive for keeping just local backups etc. USA or Canada doesn't matter. CPU - hmm. don't really have that many sites to run so load wise don't need those fancy chips !

Budget - guess under 150 a month would be ideal
