Looking for a dual AMD Epyc +7402 dedicated server with a /24 subnet

Hi folks,

I am looking for dedicated servers located in EUROPE with 2x AMD Epyc 7402 or above with 256GB RAM and more importantly, a /24 subnet (or at least /25). Cause I am going to run KVM virtualisation.

Thanks in advance.

AMD EPYC 7702p vs 7702

I am thinking to buy AMD EPYC 64 core Server
But I am confused in AMD EPYC 7702p vs 7702. Both spesification is same but price wise there is aprox 20% diffrent.
So my question is 7702 is good or bad? why it is cheaper?

Premium dedicated server provider?

Hi there,

Can people recommend premium dedicated server providers who take uptime seriously and offer IPMI, redundant power, private networks, EPYC Rome configurations with NVMe, etc?

We don't need uncapped public network interfaces -- 25TB total between all our servers is fine, but the private network needs to be 10G+.

We used to use SoftLayer before IBM bought them. We're currently hosted with a very premium provider in Chicago but we're not getting the service we used to get there.

OVH's latest "enterprise" dedicated configurations (HG) look pretty good but... has anyone used them? Is OVH decent?

Thanks!

Fantastic experience with 10gbps dedicated server @ Tempest Hosting

I heard of Tempest hosting from several Discord servers, and give it a try.

Bought an M610 dedicated server in Amsterdam, running X5677, 32GB RAM, 900GB storage, 10gbps dedicated unmetered port. yes, you're not reading it wrong.

Onboarding process, it was smooth sailing. Registered, paid, and their IPMI system will automatically install the OS I chose. They also provide "Firewall Manager", where we can add filters on what ports/ips/protocols should be allowed/rejected to our server IP. They also provide DDoS filters, such as OpenVPN/VSE/TCP/TS3.

Compared to other providers, specs/hardware wise, there are far better options (ryzen/epyc/E5), but considering the price, no other providers can offer what they offer. 10gbit unmetered dedicated port for only US$150/mo!?

They do offer Ryzen servers, but I think it's a pre-order system and takes 2-6 weeks.

Network wise, the downside is that they're not on any exchanges/IXs (AMS-IX, DE-CIX, NL-IX, LINX, etc). They only use tier-1 upstreams (GTT & NTT), so sometimes routing outside of Europe (specifically Asia Pacific) is a bit weird.

In terms of support, they offer two options, either via WHMCS or their Discord server. All of the people who I talk to are friendly and knowledgeable.

Overall, for $150/mo, 10gbps unmetered port, it's fantastic. I hope that more & better specs will be available in the near future.

OVH EPYC Processor Frequency Anomaly

Recently we have purchased a dedicated server with the OVH group in the US data center. Upon closer inspection to the server here is what we discovered:

https://us.ovhcloud.com/bare-metal/infra/infra-3/

model name : AMD EPYC 7371 16-Core Processor
stepping : 2
microcode : 0x8001250
cpu MHz : 2500.000

# lscpu | grep MHz
CPU MHz: 2500.000
CPU max MHz: 3100.0000
CPU min MHz: 2500.0000

https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/...#product-specs Speed of the CPU does appear to be 3.1 GHz however we have only been provisioned a server that is 2.5 GHz. Does this seem like an odd situation that we should raise it up to them or is this normal?

How to choose right server configuration

Hi

I am tasked to purchase a new server for our network. Basically the idea is to consolidate 2 servers with VMs into one more powerful server.
Current configuration is 2xE5-2680v4 with 128GB ram per server.

I am thinking about something like AMD Epyc 7702P with 256GB of memory, but I am not completely sure about it. Yes, this server has lots of cores, but the base clock speed of this CPU is lower than what we currently have.
I did some research and this CPU seems to be more powerful compared on a sheet, but is it on reality?

We are mainly using those servers for hosting our websites, some big databases. My question is do you think we will see significant performance increase if we do this upgrade, beside saving some money on datacenter costs (consolidating 4U into 1U server)?

Dual CPU vs Single CPU Dedicated Server

What is better a Dual CPU or Single CPU Dedicated Server at the same Benchmark Rating?

I have been searching for a new server to put CentOS 8 then cloudlinux on then move my websites and 4 clients over to it and I do not see a lot of Dual CPU servers.

Hetzner AX-Line Vs Dell Line

So, I'm looking for a big server to migrate my old server from OVH. Seems like Im taking the most powerful AX server (https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ax161) or maybe the second most powerful Dell Server (https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/dell/dx181) (both with AMD EPYC 7502P, but Im wondering whats the difference between those options. In Dell I can Install 2 more disk than the AX servers, that the only difference, but I read that Dell Server have an special RAID hardware. Is this price efficient? Does the ax161 server comes with any kind of RAID installation?

I want to do a RAID-1 configuration.

CEPH Build - EPYC NVME Power Consumption

Hi All -

Wanted to see people's experience with Ceph builds (3/5 nodes) using an AMD Epyc2 with NVME drives. One of my questions is actual power consumption; trying to understand what our electricity costs will be like for the year . I am looking at this for our potential config with 3 nodes:

1x Supermicro A+ Server 1114S-WN10RT
1x AMD EPYC 7302P, 3.00GHz, 16C/32T, Socket SP3, tray
4x 32GB SK hynix DDR4-3200 CL22 (2Gx4) ECC reg. DR
1x MON: 256GB Samsung SSD PM981a NVMe, M.2 (PCIe)
10x OSD: 7,68TB Samsung SSD PM1733, 2.5 Zoll, U.2 PCIe 4.0 x4, NVMe
1x Mellanox MCX414A-BCAT ConnectX-4 EN NIC

Dedicated Server or Bare Metal Server

What is the actual meaning of Dedicated servers ? ok the answer is a dedicated server is a type of web hosting in which a client has the exclusive use of an entire server. So that mean VPS also a dedicated server. We used that word a decade ago for Bare Metal Servers. I think we should correct the WHT category as Bare Metal Servers. This is just a suggestion. What do you think about that ?
